E-Learning Curriculum Developer / Instructional Designer

Location: Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire (Hybrid Working Available) Salary: £33,400 – £45,000 per annum Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week Department: Learning & Development Reports To: Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer

Role Purpose

The E-Learning Curriculum Developer / Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, reviewing and maintaining high-quality online learning programmes, digital learning resources, learner assessments and educational materials. The successful candidate will work closely with subject matter experts, training consultants, employers and stakeholders to create engaging learning experiences that meet educational standards, industry requirements and organisational objectives. This role is central to the company’s strategy of expanding its e-learning and digital education services and requires a professional with expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, learning technologies and learner engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development
  • Design and develop online training programmes.
  • Create structured learning pathways.
  • Develop learner-centred curriculum frameworks.
  • Review and update existing educational content.
  • Ensure alignment with learning outcomes and industry requirements.
  • Produce accredited and non-accredited learning materials.
Instructional Design
  • Apply recognised instructional design methodologies.
  • Design engaging and interactive learning experiences.
  • Develop storyboards and course structures.
  • Create multimedia learning content.
  • Integrate adult learning principles into programme design.
  • Improve learner engagement and completion rates.
E-Learning Content Creation
  • Develop digital learning resources.
  • Produce online course content.
  • Create learner workbooks and supporting materials.
  • Develop instructional videos and presentations.
  • Create assessments and knowledge checks.
  • Support digital product development initiatives.
Assessment Design
  • Develop formative and summative assessments.
  • Create learner evaluation tools.
  • Design competency-based assessment frameworks.
  • Review assessment effectiveness.
  • Support quality assurance processes.
Learning Technology Management
  • Work with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Upload and maintain online course content.
  • Support learner access and engagement.
  • Evaluate emerging learning technologies.
  • Recommend improvements to learning delivery systems.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with trainers and subject matter experts.
  • Consult with employers and industry partners.
  • Gather learner feedback.
  • Participate in curriculum review meetings.
  • Support organisational learning initiatives.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure educational materials meet quality standards.
  • Maintain compliance with awarding body requirements where applicable.
  • Monitor learner feedback and performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to internal audits and quality reviews.

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
  • Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Educational Technology, Training Management or related discipline.
OR
  • Equivalent professional experience in curriculum development and instructional design.

Essential Experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
  • Experience designing educational programmes.

  • Experience applying instructional design methodologies.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems.
